Thomas Patrick Shanley Jr. passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 surrounded by family. Pat was born in the same bedroom as his dad on the Shanley homesteaded property here in Auburn CA on July 17, 1920. Pat rode to Edgewood school on horseback as a youngster and later attended Placer High School. After graduation Pat began work for Ma Bell as a lineman. Pat met and married the love of his life Mary Kaffka from Lincoln. He enlisted in the Army during WWII and was stationed in Missouri for three and a half years...

Thomas Patrick Shanley Jr. passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 surrounded by family. Pat was born in the same bedroom as his dad on the Shanley homesteaded property here in Auburn CA on July 17, 1920. Pat rode to Edgewood school on horseback as a youngster and later attended Placer High School. After graduation Pat began work for Ma Bell as a lineman. Pat met and married the love of his life Mary Kaffka from Lincoln. He enlisted in the Army during WWII and was stationed in Missouri for three and a half years as a drill instructor and trainer of troops in communications. After the war, Pat and Mary returned to the family property in Auburn, built their home, and raised two daughters Suzy and Judy. Pat and Mary stayed in the home they built for the rest of their lives surrounded by family and friends.

For the 39 years Pat worked as a lineman for Ma Bell, he traveled all over Placer County "shootin trouble" and wiring houses with phones. Pat prided himself as a cowman and raised Herford cattle well into his 80's. Pat was actively involved in the Placer County Farm Bureau during this time. Pat and Mary belonged to the Jeans and Queens's square dance club and spent 25 years of their retirement dancing and camping.

Pat is survived by his daughter Suzy Ronk and her partner John of Auburn, son-in-law Bob Ragar Sr. of Pahrump, NV, his grandchildren Maurine Michelle Santiago and her husband David of Auburn, Tom Ragar and his wife Wendy of Reno, NV, Bob Ragar Jr. and his wife Tashianna of Reno, NV, and 7 great grandchildren (Cole, Ebbett, Olivia, Adeline, Tommy, Ethan and Aiden).

The visitation will be at Chapel of the Hills Mortuary 4:00 till 8:00 pm, Monday May 22, 2017. Blessings will be at Chapel of the Hills Tuesday May 23, 2017 at 10:00 am with interment following at the New Auburn Cemetery, 1040 Collins Drive at 11:00am.
